CAROLE DOBRICH is a Montreal-based registered nurse and international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) who frequently lectures on the topics of birth and breastfeeding. She is coordinator of The Goldfarb Breastfeeding Clinic at the Sir Mortimer B. Davis - Jewish General Hospital and of a weekly mother and baby support group held at the hospital. Ms. Dobrich also has a private practice, doing both home visits and telephone consultations. She obtained her general nursing certificate in 1983 from the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Australia, later pursuing further nursing studies at Montreal’s Vanier College. Ms. Dobrich became an international board certified lactation consultant in 1996 and recertified in 2001.

Carole is the mother of four boys, all breastfed.

Dr. Lenore Goldfarb, PhD, CCC, IBCLC, ALC is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), lactation educator, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and researcher at the Goldfarb Breastfeeding Clinic and Program located within the Jewish General Hospital, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She is president of the Canadian Breastfeeding Foundation. In April 2002 Lenore established this website as an information resource for couples who are expanding their families by adoption, surrogacy, or traditional pregnancy as well as those experiencing infertility and/or recurrent miscarriage. AskLenore.com supports all mothers who wish to breastfeed, whether they are relactating, hoping to breastfeed after breast augmentation or reduction, inducing lactation for an adoptive child or one born by surrogacy, or breastfeeding a biological child.

Lenore’s son, Adam, was born in 1999 by gestational surrogacy. After Adam was conceived, Lenore was determined to breastfeed her baby and began searching for a doctor who could help her achieve that goal. She found Dr. Jack Newman, who worked with her to develop a protocol that enabled Lenore to provide breastmilk for her son from his second day of life. Adam was born prematurely , at 32 weeks’ gestation, and was initially tube-fed with Lenore’s breastmilk. He was able to feed on his own from the breast at 9 days and continued to receive breastmilk until he was 8 months old and a healthy 20 pounds. At her peak, Lenore was able to produce 32 ounces of breastmilk per day.

After Lenore’s success with the protocol she began to spread the word. Soon she was receiving inquiries from women all over North America who were eager to breastfeed their adopted babies or babies born via surrogacy. In response, she wrote the first Guide to the Protocols for Induced Lactation, based on information in Dr. Newman’s book and her own experience, and posted it on the web in July 2001. Since then, she has helped more than 4,000 adoptive mothers, intended mothers, and relactating women to bring in their milk supplies. Lenore is the 2007 recipient of the Quebec Lactation Consultant Association Linda J. Smith Award of Excellence. This award was presented to Lenore on June 4th, 2007 by Linda J. Smith on behalf of the Quebec Lactation Consultant Association

In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of human lactation, for challenging the status quo in our society, her sincere efforts to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding, and for endeavoring to bring excellence to the IBCLC profession.

In 2010, Lenore completed her doctorate in human lactation and reproductive counseling at the Union Institute & University, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Jack Newman, MD, FRCPC is a Toronto pediatrician who has practised medicine since 1970. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto medical school. In 1984 he established the first hospital-based breastfeeding clinic in Canada at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. He has practiced as a physician in Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa. He now holds breastfeeding clinics in several hospitals in the Toronto area. He is a consultant with UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and is a popular speaker at breastfeeding conferences across North America and beyond.

He is the father of three children, all breastfed.
