Hi, I am almost 2 weeks into the accelerated protocol, but it was recommended that I use the Ortho 1/35 instead of the Yasmin and I was wondering what the difference is as to why I was recommended the Ortho instead of the Yasmin? How soon should I be experiencing any changes? If I don't, do I switch to the Yasmin? Baby is coming home next week and I am getting anxious!!

Hi Lou,
We've been recommending Ortho 1/35 over Yasmin for some women because it provides consistent results and if necessary can be augmented with Provera 2.5.
With your doctor's approval kindly begin with the Ortho 1/35 and report changes that you notice in your breasts such as heaviness, pain in the outer quadrants or under the armpits, increase in size and so on.Changes typically take at least two weeks.
Best,

Hi Lenore, I have been taking the Ortho, per your recommendation, I just kept reading over the accelerated protocol and wanted to be sure I shouldn't be taking the Yasmin instead. I think I am finally feeling some breast changes though, so I am encouraged! I am flying tomorrow to pick up baby boy in Guatemala! Two more weeks of Ortho to go. I have a Pump in Style and herbs and just waiting for the 2 weeks. I do have a Lact-Aid for the meantime.I may not be pumping yet but I am definitely "pumped" and ready to get started!!

Excellent news!! Hang in there and remember, the main thing when you get there is to bond with and enjoy your baby. All the breastfeeding stuff will work itself out in the long run. Try to keep us posted from there if you're able.
One tip if I may....your baby is used to bottles most likely with a huge hole for faster flow. It's typically a good idea to transition to the breast slowly. First using a bottle with a slower flow, and then slow flow nipple such as the AVENT with one holed slow flow nipples. Then we use the Lact-aid theaded through the bottle nipple placed on the breast and then slowly transition to a Medela Newborn Small Nipple Shield with the Lact-aid threaded through at the breast and then eventually, just the breast with the Lactaid an then just the breast. This may take many weeks to accomplish so go slow. If your baby takes to one thing, give it a day and then try the next and if he/she protests, stay a little while at the previous step until she/he's ready to move to the next step.
It's not wise to force your baby to the breast or to starve them so they will be hungry at the breast. All this does is frustrate them. A starving baby will not be in a position to learn anything. Approach this with love and patience and you should prevail.
Good luck!!!
