We are expecting a baby via a Gestational Carrier in April. I would love to be able to breastfeed. Unfortunately I have a history of pulmonary embolus (triggered by birth control pills) and am not allowed to take hormones or anything that could possibly increase the chance of a blood clot.

Is there a protocol that could still work for me?

Does domperidone have any bad side effects?

Thank you all in advance!

Jennifer I don't know about the domperidone or the herbs which we take to help with inducing lactation. I haven't read anything on them that would suggest causing clots. I would suggest you email Lenore as your is a complex situation.

Hi Jennifer,

Congratulations on your impending arrival!! Sorry for the delayed response. What many mothers in your situation do is follow a protocol that involves goat's rue together with domperidone. Neither contains estrogen or progesterone which are associated with emboli. You would need to begin pumping fairly soon. Email me at Lenore@asklenore.info for further information.

Best,
