I've been on the Regular Protocol with Yasmin and Domperidone (either 30mg 3 times per day or 20mg 4 times per day) since July. It's definitely working as I got breast changes of a cup size right away and at anytime I can squeeze out drops, sometimes large ones, and occasionally a spray from the left breast. My problem is the breakthrough bleeding and cramping from the Yasmin. I've been miserable. I'm fortunate that my libido hasn't dropped to zero, but it is rather reduced. Plus, lovemaking is no fun when I'm cramping or spotting for 2 weeks out of every four. Partially, this is a "whining session", but my question is, "How detrimental would it be for me to go off the protocol and start pumping now?".

Perhaps I'll be more miserable having to wake up at night and pump, or pump at the office. My twins are due in January, probably early to middle January. I'm co-parenting with another woman, the birth mother. We both plan to breastfeed. We want to BF for as long as possible, and thought it would be special and more effective if we could both nurse. I want to build up a good supply and have some milk stored, just in case the babies are premature and have difficulty nursing.

Suggestions? Comments? Sympathies?

Thanks, Crys.

Hi...

Just wanted to let you know that i also experienced a lot of breakthrough bleeding in the first few months of the protocol but that has completely disappeared now...I'm sure Lenore or another more experienced person will answer all your questions but thought I would let you know that it has gone away...good luck to you!

Hi Crys,

Thank you for your post. I understand your concerns having been there twice. Break through bleeding is not fun that's for sure but starting to pump now and continuing until the twins are born may be more than you bargained for.

We're not sure why women have been opting to use the Yasmin instead of the recommended Ortho 1/35 for the regular protocol. But you may want to consider switching to the Ortho 1/35. It tends to provide more consistent results. And although we know it's hard to resist, but kindly be a good girl and leave your breasts alone. Hand expression releases oxytocin which can trigger let down. We don't want your breasts to start production at this point because we want to give your breasts every opportunity to develop their milk making apparatus before you initiate production. This is sort of like reving the car engine with the gas and the brake at the same time. If you let the brake go too soon you can have a problem.

Kindly discuss all of this with your doctor so that you can be monitored and educate at the same time.

Best,
