Our twins have arrived, 4 weeks early. My partner developed pretty severe hypertension, baby B had the cord around his neck and he was in a breech presentation. With all those factors, the doctors suggested (and she reluctantly agreed) to schedule a cesarean. The boys are perfect, if scrawny. They were 6lbs and 5lbs14oz at birth, but have lost a good bit because they're not the best feeders.

The spectacular news is that, although the LC recommended supplementing, we don't have to use formula! We can use the stored milk I've been producing. She wholeheartedly agreed that mature breast milk was WAY better for the babies than formula. So, we've been using a SNS and finger feeding them after they come off the breast. She says they're immature suckers and that it will take a while for them to do better.

Everything is so perfect and I couldn't be happier. We really agonized over whether or not I should induce lactation, and my efforts have already paid off. On a humorous note, I'm totally jealous. My partner's milk has come in. At her first pumping sessions, to relieve engorgement that remained after a less than satisfactory nursing session, she effortlessly produced 7oz. The most I've ever produced after 2 months of pumping is 8 oz in a whole day! Grrr... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for your help and support. I plan to keep pumping so I can give at least one feeding per day. That's been my goal all along and I've realized that.

Congratulations on your new additions!!!
i'm sure once those babies start sucking away, you will produce much more milk.... i'm sure seeing those babies and bonding with them thru BF'ing, that whole psychological factor will help get that milk production flowing!!

Good luck and Congrats again!

Hi Crys,

CONGRATULATIONS on your new arrivals and on a fabulous start to a breastfeeding relationship for all concerned.

It does my heart good to read a story such as this. Keep up the great work and in no time those babies will be at the breast which will likely reduce their hospital stay.

It's equally important to hold these little ones skin to skin as much as possible. Have a look at this link: www.kangaroomothercare.com

But most of all, enjoy your babies!!! Before you know it they will be grown and asking for the car keys.

Best,
