My husband and I found out our birth mom was pregnant at 6 wks. We had previously adopted two of her children via CPS and have remained in contact with her. When she became pregnant this time she wanted us to adopt privately (she knew CPS would pick-up). So we arranged everything with our lawyer. At the same time I began to find out more about adoptive breastfeeding. To make a long story short I was on the protocol for six months (Yasmin and Dom and I prayed and pleaded with God to give me the desire of my heart). I pumped every two hours for six weeks prior to birth. By the time she (Sydney)was born I was pumping 21-23 ounces a day. Because of crazy circumstances (CPS tried to get involved b/c my daughter tested positive for cocaine and the complications of the cocaine) I was unable to breastfeed her while she was in the hospital. She spent five days in the hospital. We brought her home and I immediately began breastfeeding her. She latched on the first time! Her pediatrician has been completely blown away by our success (he tells everyone about us). I have BF her 100% I have never given her a bottle or supplemented at all. She is now 7 1/2 months old (how time flies!) and she started solids about 6 weeks ago. She continues to BF and we couldn't be happier. Thanks to all of you who have contributed so much to this site. While I have rarely posted in the last year and a half I have read the posts on this site and taken notes. I do want to share about one little bump in the road early ... thrush (she was on a lot of antibiotics in the hospital) and I got yeast on my breasts as a result and the most effective remedy was gentian violet. It is messy but very effective. So that is our story for what ever it is worth...we are certainly living happily ever after.
