Hi all- My husband and I plan to adopt a baby domestically in the next few
months. I also have a bio son who is now 8 that I nursed for many years. I am
very eager to nurse our adopted baby but I do have some constraints. I'm not
interested in pumping ahead of time and I'm not interested in using Domperidone.
I realize that this will cut down on the amount of milk I am able to produce.
We will be adopting a newborn who will likely be 2-4 days old when we first get
her (definitely less than 2 weeks old). I have so many questions!

I see all sorts of info on the web about how to use Domperidone but very little
on a protocol for someone using only herbs. Can someone guide me? I hear about
fenugreek - lots of it - but how much? When? Then Blessed thistle to decrease
side effects from fenugreek - but not too much or it will decrease supply? How
much and when of that? How soon before getting baby should I start the herbs?

Finally, I'm wondering what in the world to put in the supplementer. Which formulas are best? I'm interested in organic. Someone I know mentioned making
homemade formula from goat's milk. Does anyone have a recipe for that? How do
I choose?

Thanks so much for any help you guys can give!

Tamara, welcome! The herbs fenugreek and blessed thistle are both milk makers. Fenugreek being the primary. This is the dosage Fenugreek 500-700mg 3 caps 3x a day Blessed Thistle 300-400mg 3 caps 3x a day
Asa for formula, I don't know. I used Good Start with my DD 7 years ago. Things have changed and there are so many more choices now. I would probably personally go for an organic formula. But really my first choice would be to find donor milk. Nona here runs a program matching mother to mother. It isn't suggested to make your own formula, to difficult to get the nutrition down.

Laurie- Thanks for your note & dosage info. Where can I find out about the program to match to a donor milk mom?

Thanks again!
