We had expected it to be a while more before we had our baby, but we got the call today and we may be bringing her home as soon as this weekend!

I am still only getting about 1/2 ounce per pumping session, slightly more at night. If I pump every two hours I can get about 5-6 ounces per 24 hours, but not enough to feed a baby. Is there anything I can do at this point to drastically up my milk production? I am willing to buy a newer pump or rent one if it will make a difference. I could up the drugs/herbs even more if it will help. If I pump every hour for the next 24 hours will it make any difference? Help!

Hi Kelly Sue,
Wow, that's good news!
Personally, I wouldn't panic. You will need all your energy when the baby will arrive, don't exhaust yourself! I think pumping every 2 hour is good (it's what newborns do - nurse every 2-3 hours). Be confident in yourself, and prepared... do you have a supplementer? You may need it while your supply is building.
Good luck, and have a wonderful new life with your new baby!

Kelly Sue,
I had been on the protocol while we were waiting to be matched. We got a surprise call too and I stopped the BCP and started pumping the day we received placement. I was able to build to 1 1/2 - 2oz per session within 2 weeks. It did help that I spent one day pumping every two hours or less.
I have had a harder time building since then. I am making 2-3 oz per session now. I am exclusively breastfeeding, but sometimes I worry she isn't getting enough. I hope you can build your supply quickly. Also, remember that a baby is more efficient than a pump.
Congratulations!
Jennifer
