We are home from Africa with our beautiful 5 mo old baby boy.
He latched on the first day we had him in our care...and has latched on a number of times since but he is used to being fed larger amounts at a time and I'm afraid I haven't been able to keep up with the pumping. The lact-aid is extremely frustrating and now he's crying when I try to get him to latch on. I don't want to give up, but I'm feeling very overwhelmed. Do you have any suggestions? I thought I would try to feed him smaller amounts more often and keep trying to offer the breast when he is sleepy and relaxed. I'm feeding him both formula and breastmilk I've saved via the bottle. Any tips on how to use the lact-aid? It seems very cumbersome and hard to set up. Any advice would be helpful. I've worked so hard and feel so discouraged.

Are you taping the tubing to your breast? That helped me a lot also find an LC that is familiar with a supplementer and get her help. Watch the videos that are on this site.
You may need to do the transitioning to breast slowly protocol. Give me your email and I will send you a copy.
Hang in there.

Huge success all of the sudden!! My baby has successfully nursed with the lact-aid 4 times today. Woohoo! Can you tell me what it is a good amount for me to see him taking in in a 24 hour period? He is 12 pounds at 5 months.
Thanks,
Emily

Just got him to take 4 oz with one feeding. Had to switch bags. I wish the supplementer held more. An LC just told me 2.5 oz per pound per day. Is this correct? That would mean 30 oz per day.

some babies don't take that much...But that is an average. You can order the larger bags from Lact-aid. Or you can order the longer tubes and use an 8 ounce baby bottle. That way it saves alot on your expenses. You can tuck the bottle in between your breasts. I made an adaption. Take an 8 ounce or 4 ounce bottle. Cut a hole in the silicone nipple so the lact-aid tube will slip through. Fill your bottle. Put the nipple in the bottle nipple down. Slip your lact-aid through that hole. Screw your collar down on it. It will hold the lact-aid in place and save you money on bags. Its good to use at home. That way you can use your bags when your out.

Thanks so much for your support.
Only one bottle today when I didn't have much quiet time getting the kids off to school. He's nursed with the lactaid every other time today. It is so sweet and rewarding to have stuck it out.
So worth all the work. Thank you. He even nursed on the other side without the lactaid. Next goal...getting him to nurse at night. He refused all night last night.

You go girl! Keep it up.... he will nurse soon at night. Make sure your in the same chair you nurse in during the day. Make everything just the same. He might then
