Hi everyone! I am expecting a baby via gestational surrogacy in early June. I started the protocol at 6 weeks pregnant and got about 6 months on it. I started pumping about 2 weeks ago and I have spray on both sides and am pumping about 1 oz every three hours.

How much should I expect to need for my daughter when she arrives? I have read that newborns eat approximately 2 1/2 times their body weight daily...? What happens if I am actually producing more than that at the time, would I pump after she feeds to keep my supply up?

So many questions!

Candace,
In the first days the baby won't eat much. Maybe 1-2 ounces every 2-3 hours. Usually at least 8-12 times a day. The 2 1/2 times there body weight is based on formula feeding, but gives you a good estimate. Kellymom.com says most breastfed babies don't need much more than 24 ounces in a 24 hour period regardless of size. I still pump after the last night feed and the middle of the night feed. I had been pumping after the morning feed too, but found it was adversely affecting the amount of milk she was getting the rest of the day. DD is almost 4 months old and has been ebf since 2 weeks. We had no notice so I started pumping the day we received placement. Hope that helps.

Thanks Jennifer, that does help. I'm fairly confident that I will have enough to feed her when she gets here! I'd really like to not have to supplement or use a SNS if I can help it!
