I am re-thinking taking my lactina on the airplane to Ethiopia as a carry-on. I think taking a hand-pump for the plane would be much easier. The trip from door to door is about 27 hours...Would there be a problem hand-pumping for this long and not using my lactina for this long? Would I see a decrease in production from not having good stimulation for over 24 hours? I am still not producing that much anyway. Stuck on about 1.25 ounces in 24 hours..ugh...
Also, what is the best hand pump to use? I heard the Avent is good. any suggestions?
We leave sept 10th!!!!

The Avent is good and the new Medela Hand pump is good too. I think you would be fine to use a hand pump for the flight time but take the lactina to use when you are not flying. Just make sure to pump at least every 3 hours. WOW Sept 10th will be here before you know it, how exciting.

I am using a hand pump all the time. Where I am currently living, there are no electric pumps for rent, and to buy one it would be too expensive. I am not producing that much milk either, but I don't think it's the pump that's causing this.

Good luck. September 10th will be here before you know it :-)

Personally, I would definitely use the big jobby.
You will save so much time double pumping and I think it's less conspicuous (if you are worried about that). I was able to pump on the plane with a blanket over me and noone ever knew what I was doing. Using a hand pump would be hard to do discreetly.
