I successfully induced lactation and am still BF our 20 month old adopted daughter. I never had to supplement.(For those needing encouragement I posted my story 9/22/07) So, here is my situation...we just found out that the birth mom of 3 of our adopted children is due to deliver again in early Feb; she has asked us to adopt. I am still BF our 20mo. She mostly nurses at bedtime and first thing in the morning; occassionally in the mid afternoon. I know that getting her to nurse more would be my best bet at increasing my milk supply OR Would it be better to add Dom for a few months OR add a few pumpings a day for a few months? I feel like maybe I should know the answer but I just don't. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I want this BFing experience to be as successful as our other daughters.

I would add a few pumpings and see what happens. You may need a little boost with herbs or Dom but maybe not. Try the pumping for a couple weeks and see. If she nursed basically 3 times a day then I would try to squeeze in 3 pumpings. You should know after a week or two if your supply is picking up.

Thanks guys! I was thinking along those lines but I needed to hear it from someone else. Should I start pumping now? If not when should I start? It may be easier to wait until after the holidays. I think I will start the herbs and encourage my daughter to nurse more; we may can get in one more nursing a day and only pump twice a day. I have 6 other children and home school 4 of them. Like most of you we are very busy; but I want to make it work. I appreciate reading everyones experiences. Thanks again for your responses
