What quantity do you store in a Lansinoh bag? Do you keep it a couple days and fill it up? Or just do a couple of ounces?

I keep my milk in the bottles it drips in when I pump. Once I have two ounces, I pour it into the milk bags & freeze it. I've kept adding to the bottles for up to 4 days before freezing.

Once you are making more milk, you will want to freeze in various amounts. Some 2 oz. and some 4 or 6 oz.

Oh really? I haven't thought to do diff. sizes. I have about 200 oz saved in the freezer (2 oz each).

This is a dumb question, but how much breast milk do babies drink at a time? I know newborns don't take much, but how about when they get a little older? And don't they take more formula then breast milk???? I can't seen to find a straight answer.

I know I'll have to suppliment with formula after a couple weeks. I was making 6 oz a day... so bummed I'm only doing 2 oz every 3 days now. frown I just found pumping so tiring for so long. I've been doing it since April and really slowed it down in July when I had surgery. I assumed we get a baby by now... waiting almost 3 years for adoption.

Adoptions can take forever! My thoughts are with you!

I'm worried that I'm not pumping often enough. I just don't see how anyone could fit in 8-12 sessions. I'd never get to sleep or work.

I could not commit to pump for that long, that I why I stayed on the protocol as long as possible.

Babies can drink anywhere from 3-8 oz at a time when they get a little older. The more they drink in one sitting, the less frequently that they have to eat (in theory). In the beginning they will only drink an ounce or two at a time and they will eat 8-12 times a day (mine it was usually around 8-9). After a month or two they should be drinking around 24 oz in a day. If they eat 8 times a day, it will be around 3 oz each time. If they eat 6 times a day it will be about 4 oz a time. But this is just an average. Some babies will need more.

Thanks... I never would've thought we'd be waiting this long. We were initially told the average wait was 12 - 18 months. When we were a little over a 2 years I figured, "WELL! It has to be any day, so I'll start pumping." RIGHT! We were told that less babies are being born in general, so adoption really slowed.

I was pumping 8 times a day while I was working. Luckily I was the boss and could do this lol. My staff knew what I was doing. Now that I'm a "trophy wife" (or maid haha)it's just a pain... I only pump twice a day. I figure I'll catch up when we get the baby latched. But I'm still building a reserve to suppliment with the lact-aid.

I appreciate the info Jennifer! That amount isn't too scary!! wink
