Baby is due in 2 weeks. I will be using the last-aid supplementer. How will I know if my milk supply is increasing? Will the baby just take less volume from the bag? I have pumped for 5 weeks now and am only up to 1.5 ounces/day. It seems that I increase by 10 mL/week. I want to nurse frequently and stop using the pump if possible after baby arrives. Is frequent nursing successful at increasing supply. I hate pumping cry

I think you should be able to just nurse frequently and stop pumping for the most part. I kept pumping after supplementing for a while (but I was supplementing with a bottle) and even continued after feeds after I was able to exclusively breastfeed with my first daughter to try to continue to increase supply. The second time I induced I didn't pump nearly as much after a full supply was established.

I had a scale to weigh the baby before and after feeds and that helped me to know the baby was getting enough. Giving up the supplementation was hard and kind of a leap of faith. I just stopped supplementing and nursed more frequently and kept watching pees and poops and weighing the baby. It worked for us. I was probably at about 9 oz a day at the point I stopped supplementing and the baby was taking about 12 oz a day total (she was small and still young - about 2 weeks old). So it was a little easier to catch up.

I think you will definitely see an increase as the baby starts nursing. I would sometimes let them nurse first without a supplementer.

Good luck!
Jennifer
