What is your opinion??? Which works better for long term use? And.... when I order what should I get? I have to order soon so let me know what you think!

I haven't used either, yet, but the popular opinion seems to be for the Lact-Aid. The Lact-Aid makes the baby work for the milk, as they should at the breast, where an SNS works on gravity, so the baby doesn't really have to work. If you decide to order a Lact-Aid, those with experience have recommended that you order up to six, if you can afford to. At least two or three, though. This way, you don't have to clean it every time you feed, and you can have some bags pre-made in the fridge, so your baby doesn't have to wait as long for you to get situated. What you can order is the Deluxe system, at Lact-Aid, and then you can order individual units, which are about $18 each.

I have used both and felt the lactaid was lots better at getting the baby actively sucking. The SNS just lets the milk drip into the baby's mouth. Also the SNS is a big hard bottle-- very conspicuous-- and it makes kind of a slurpy sound as baby is sucking, which I did not like when nursing away from home. I did have occasional problems with lactaid bags leaking, but overall it is an excellent product....

I have both -

the lact-aid is hard to use SINCE the baby has to work so hard - and when they are hungry and crying/screaming for food - sometimes the SNS is better BECAUSE the milk/formula flows easier.

I have yet to use the Lact-aid but once (the first time supplementing) - but my nerves have caused me to use the SNS almost exclusively - I follow each feeding with a 10 minute pumping session to drain my breasts - and maintain the stimulation. - This may be the wrong way to do things, but I know that my baby is getting all my milk (eventually).

ALSO - when getting a lactation consultant - be sure to ask whether they are experienced with Lact-Aid or not - mine was BIG on Medela and had never used a lact-aid - I think between my uneasiness, the crying baby, and her encouragement - I have psychologically attached myself to the SNS - maybe in a week, I'll give the Lact-aid another try - if not I'll be posting a deluxe unit and 4 rolls of bags for sale here soon!
