I'm now in my 3rd week of induction. I'm taking fenugreek, blessed thistle, alfalfa and domperidone (80mg/day). I've only managed to pump about 2-4x/day using a double electric hospital-grad pump. About 4 days ago I began to get a small amount of a clear, sappy discharge from the right breast and a few days later the same from the left breast. I am hugely excited about this progress, especially since I've been approaching this process with low expectations on the milk production front. I've been mainly focussed on using the time to slow down, read about baby stuff or just meditate on my baby. (Just a reminder, the baby is due via surrogacy on Christmas Eve.)

So my question is this. We're going to California (we live in England) next week for 5 days to see our surrogate, do the hospital tour, see the doctor, etc. I had been planning to forgo pumping while away since the pump is a bit cumbersome to take along. Now though, since seeing some results, I don't want to stop the "flow", so to speak. Should I take the pump with me? It has a carrying case which I'm sure I could carry on the plane with me. Or should I buy a hand-pump for travel? If so, which hand-pump? I'd really appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Thanks and all the best to everyone! Shirley

I would take the pump with you, if it's possible. Even if you are only pumping twice a day while you are gone, you will not be interrupting the flow, so to speak. If you don't pump while you are goine, you will basically have to start over when you get back.
If you decide to get a hand pump, I recommend the Avent Isis. It is a wonderful pump, very portable, and not too expensive, either. And it works great!
And have fun on your visit, too!

Hi,
If it were me, I'd really try to take the hospital grade pump along with me. Better safe than sorry! You wouldn't want to have to start all over when you get home. Just pump when you can...a little will be better than none at all! Only my opinion of course. Have a great trip. I hope it cools off for you. We're in So. Ca and it is SO hot! (98 today-yuck)
BTW, had you done the BCP or have you done the herbs and Dom only? Best of luck!!
