Hello, well, I'm getting ready to go back to California to await the birth (due date Dec. 24).

For our trip home, one of the flights we'll be taking will end up being roughly 12 hours (door-to-door, inclusive of driving & check-in/arrival).

As of now I'm producing about 2 oz./daily, so I probably won't have enough to exclusively breastfeed on the flights. I'm going to be supplementing breast milk from my surrogate and using a lact-aid.

Could someone please help me with the logistics? How many lact-aids should I prepare? How much milk should I put in each bag? How should I carry them? I've seen the travel bag that Lact-aid sells - would that be suitable?

I would so appreciate hearing from others who have dealt with this challenge. I'm feeling so excited and positive about the breastfeeding. I just want to be prepared so I don't end up in a situation where I don't have any more milk with an unhappy baby!

Thanks so much! Shirley

Hi Shirley!

Congratulations!

My little guy is two months now.

The travel thing will work fine with an ice pack that you buy with it. For twelve hours you will want 2 oz in each lact iad at least....up to three but don't expect the baby to take more than it wants. I have six and it works for me though you can only really get four in the travel thing....and it is tight. you will want to try to keep it upright as sometimes they leak a bit.

Bring a bottle with you just in case becasue working the lact aid takes some time to get good.

I used my lact iads on the plane with no problems....and my guy would take them room temp with no prob.

Remember you only have an hour once the saliva hits the lact aid before bacteria sets in and you should discard the rest of the formula or BM.

Best of luck to you!

Eden
