Hi! Thanks for asking about us! We got home with Emily on Feb 26th and she is just great! She took to breast milk in the Avent bottle immediately and is happy to bottlefeed with her cheek on my breast. She has put her mouth playfully on my nipple a few times while awake and since I have showed her my breast often she also sticks her hand in my shirt now and then just out of curiousity, I think. I offer the breast every day just after she dozes off at naptime, and she has latched on several times, usually just for a few sucks til she tosses her head and turns away. But yesterday she stayed latched on for a good 10 minutes, alternately snoozing and sucking. She was pretty sleepy, but althogether spent at least 3 minutes actively sucking. I was very encouraged. But I am trying to stay emotionally open to whatever she ends up doing. As promising as it all is, I know that may be as far as i ever get with nursing her. And tho I would love to get her really nursing, I think i am truly content with what we have. She is a lovely cuddly baby-- very responsive and fun-- and I feel really great about all the milk I was able to freeze for her and that she guzzles so happily each day. She is getting about 20 oz of breastmilk a day (I am pumping about 10 oz a day) and I have enough in my freezer to last a good long time-- haven't figured it out exactly, but there is a lot... SO we are doing really well. I will try to post more if there are 'breakthroughs'! But it is pretty busy at our house these days.
Thanks again for asking!!!
