Some of you might have heard of me, and some not. My name is Jenn Connel and I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Grayson Riley, on Dec. 22, 2003. He has been exclusively breastfed despite the fact that I had a double mastectomy on Sept. 30, 2002. You can read my full story at www.feedmybaby.com.

I have been SO lucky so far with the wonderful milk donors that I have come across, but my freezer stash is starting to get DANGEROUSLY low and I'm so afraid that I will have to start him on formula, which I don't want to do at ALL!

I was just wondering if any of you knew of any milk mamma's that have a stash of milk that they'd be willing to donate to my son.

Please pass the word - I'd love to be able to feed him breast milk for a full year. He's 4 1/2 months old now, and we'll be starting solids at 6 months - but I want to be able to give him the nutritional benefits of BM for as long as possible!

As a note - I'm pregnant AGAIN and I'll be looking for some more "Angel's" for my next child. Keep me in mind!

Thanks in advance,

Jenn & especially Grayson

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant with a surro baby, or two for a matter of fact, and right now the estimated due date is Jan 12, 2005, and I thought about pumping for a small fee, and the receivers pay for all packing and shippment. Let me know if you might be interested in BM for baby #2.

I believe it is illegal to charge for breastmilk. You need to be very careful with what arrangements you make.

I have talked to several surrogates around where I live and they all have told me that surrogates can charge a small fee for pumping and storing the breast milk, for their surro babies, or for other peoples children

actually no they can't. Breastmilk is considered a bodily fluid and buying and selling of it is illegal and can result in charges being filed and fines. The only LEGAL way milk can be sold is through a milk bank. And that is because it has been pasteurized and tested for disease and bacteria. And what they charge is to cover the testing and pasteurization costs. Now you can have the recipient pay for your bags and your shipping. But not the milk. I know personally where the health department threatened a woman to take her to court over breast milk. It is not legal. The shipping costs and milk bags alone run a mommy about 200.00. a cooler.

I was also going to say that even if it WAS legal to sell your breast milk (which it is not!) I still wouldn't pay for it. Someone cautioned me that paying for milk wouldn't be smart anyways - because there is the chance that the donor mom would 'supplement' the supply with formula without telling the Mom in order to make more money. I'm not saying that you would've done that, but I just don't want to take any chances. I do pay for all shipping, baggie and dry ice charges and Nona is correct - it's pretty expensive but SO worth it to me!
