He nursed three times and emptied three 4 oz bags last night...and lieing down!
I kept them in a cooler beside my bed. Ahhhh!!! Only had to get up once for the third.

How do you know when your supply has increased enough to decrease the amount of formula? I know you can feed a baby too much formula. Should I be pumping as well? He has nursed around the clock the last 24 hours at least every 3 hours if not more.
I really want to be done with the pumping!!!

offer your breast first without the lact-aid. Let him nurse as much as he will without it. You said you want to be done with pumping... Are you pumping now?

I haven't pumped since a little bit yesterday.
He won't take to the breast for very long without the lactaid.

okay.. when using the lact-aid having it as low as you can. The lower it is the more he will have to work the breast. I did not use the neck strap. I laid it down between me and my daughter on her tummy up against mine. And I laid a cloth diaper over it so she did not know it was there. That way she would not play with it. Also... you can pinch the tube some to slow down the flow down even more. And the last tip.... you can let your baby nurse with the tube... you might be able to pinch the tube off entirely for a bit with your finger nails until the baby starts to squirm wanting an increased flow. There are a lot of tricks...

Since I have to supplement at this point is there one formula that is better than another? What is your opinion about the controversy over DHA and ARA? Do you know of an organic formula without these added?

Thanks

Hi ergent,

I did a little research, because we had our baby, he was taking formula (he was 4 months old). I think all commercial formulas are about the same... I was told it wasn't necessary to use Nestle's Good Start formula (which is supposed to be easier to digest), but after trying the regular one I switched back to the Good Start because my baby had stomach aches...
I know, here in Canada, Loblaws sells an organic formula. We didn't try it, it wasn't on the market last year when we needed it. You can find the details on their web site (search organic baby formula, you'll find it).

One thing I was told to do if you switch formula, do it gradually over 3-4 days, mixing the new one with the old one.

Good luck!
Jalx
