reach a full supply or should I just be content nursing with the lactaid for our whole nursing relationship? He refuses to nurse without it unless very sleepy and on a full breast in the am. He's still taking in a lot of formula and I don't know if I should try to decrease it. It's working for us but just wondering if there's anything else I can do to increase the supply. He nurses with lactaid all night long too.

Emily it may just be the feel of the tubing he is used to. Have you tried to slip it out of his mouth once he is latched? Especially at night or while he is sleepy?

I'll try that but usually he objects.
If I was pumping about 4 oz per day before baby there's no way I could have a full supply already in 3 weeks. Does it take weeks or months? Since he was 4.5 months already it would take even longer, right? I know it's different for everyone, but just wondering if there's any guide to go by.

try pinching off the tubing to see if he fusses. I am sure your supply is building as much as he nurses just keep doing what you are doing. It is different with everyone as far as time frames.

He fusses when I pinch the tube and he will not latch on without it either. I tried an empty tube but that didn't work either. Uggh! I was content to go on like this but I feel my supply building (stronger let downs, fullness in the am) and I'm pretty sure I'd have enough if he'd nurse without it. Also the milk sprays out when I squeeze. He doesn't always finish the 4 oz bag like he used to either.

Thanks for your support,
Emily

Emily lower the bag as far as you can. The lower the bag the harder it is for him to get milk out. It sounds like you are doing great and your supply is growing.

Our son has been nursing more without the supplementer. Yeah!!! He's especially willing in the am. Just wanted to share the good news. I was even able to comfort nurse him in the sling while we were checking out of the store! Now if I could just get him to wean from the supplementer at night...that will be dreamy!

WooHoo fantastic!!! Thanks for coming here to update. I am sure you will be able to eventually get him to nurse without the supplementer at night. It sounds like things are going great. Keep it up!!
