I have been pumping for 4 weeks every 3 hours and 1x per night on most days (some days are less regular b/c of work travel I've had, etc.). I am still only producing an ounce per day for both sides combined. For obvious reasons, it is very frustrating for me to see such little progress! But I am going to stick to it until my twins arrive (being born by gestational surrogate in 3 weeks). We will then try the SNS to see if the direct nursing produces any better results. I am taking all of the herbs and dom and drinking lots of water, even doing shoulder blade massage, shaking the breasts, and oxytocin nasal spray for let down. So I do think I'm doing whatever I can- but my supply or letdown or both just stink.

I am wondering if there are others out there who had such dismal response to pumping but it worked out fine when starting to nurse? Or otherwise did anyone else have a bad supply for 4 weeks or so and then have it increase significantly?

Thanks!

Hello, you and I are in the same boat. Only I wasn't pumping as religiously as you have been. I started pumping a month ago and only today I have pumped one full oz. I know I should pump more every day but my life is very busy and I don't seem to have time for myself to pump more. The best I have done was pump 3 times a day !!!

I have read in moe than one place that nursing ups your breast milk supply. Breast pumping helps but is nothing compared to the actual baby nursing. So this kinda helps me keep my hopes up that once my baby is here, my supply will increase.

Good luck to you and your twins, hoping your supply increases suddenly and gives you a nice surprise before the babies are here :-)

I never had any problems nursing my bio son. However, pumping was another issue. Even when he was less than a year (so taking LOTS of milk) I was lucky to get 2 ounces during 30 to 40 minutes of pumping. (Pump 7 minutes, take a break, pump 7 minutes with another possible break and pump.) He was exclusively breastfed and other mothers could get a dozen ounces in that same time period. Not me. So, don't let your pumping results bother you. Be aware your baby may need supplementation, but once you have baby at breast, maybe they won't.

Good Luck.
