I just wanted to share my success story with everyone! My daughter Mia was born on June 8 weighing 9lbs-8ozs! She is a big girl and loves her milk! I was pumping between 20-24 ounces per day prior to her arrival and we are exclusively breastfeeding now without a problem. As a matter of fact her weight is already up to almost 10 pounds!

I have been pumping once or twice per day only when I feel that I am really full and she will not be able to take it all, but I leave some there just in case she decides to be hungry soon. We are nursing on demand. She nurses from one side only at each feed and seems to be satisfied.

I am hoping to be able to give her exclusively breastmilk for as long as possible. Thanks for the support during indiction phase and just know that it all pays off in the end!

Candace, that is the most wonderful story I have heard yet! Congratulations! I know you must be thrilled. I surely hope to post something that amazing some day...

Anyway, could I ask? Which protocol did you use? At what point did you start pumping? What exactly did you do, and what, if anything (other than the pumping) are you doing now to maintain?

I love a success story!

Thanks,
Janeen

Hi Janeen! I used the regular protocol and was able to be on it about 4 months before I started pumping. I actually pumped for about 10 weeks before my daughter was born and stacked my entire freezer with milk for later use. The advice that I can give you is to be diligent. I pumped every 2 1/2-3 hours the entire time with 1-2 pumpings overnight. Just stick with it and you will do great!

I'm not really doing anything special to maintain. Having Mia at the breast is working so far and I just hope to be able to increase my supply with her demand. That is my next hurdle!

Good luck!

Dear Candace,

CONGRATULATIONS on your new little one and on a fabulous breastfeeding experience. Your story is an inspiration for others just starting out or having a tough time. You're doing great and it will only get better and better.

Best, Lenore
