Ok, so I have done my 30 days on Yasmin and Dom and our son was born just YESTERDAY! Talk about timing! So, I stopped my Yasmin this morning, (I actually took last one yesterday) and am starting my herbs today. I read somewhere that Blessed Thistle is not safe during the actual breastfeeding, but ok only up to feeding. Is this true? Should I bypass Blessed Thistle completely? He comes home tomorrow and I have milk already, although not enough to BF exclusively yet. He's a big boy! 8 pounds 3 ounces! I have my SNS and a small supply of donated milk. I will probably end up using formula as a supplement (which is what he is getting in the hospital now)... Won't have to worry about that though for a few days at least... Anyone who can tell me the safety factor on Blessed Thistle??? I'd appreciate it!

Shannon,
Congratulations! Blessed Thistle is safe to take while breastfeeding. I don't know how much it helped me though. I definitely think the fenugreek helps more. I started pumping the day my baby came home (because we had no notice of the adoption) and had enough milk for a full supply by 2 weeks. My daughter was a tiny one though, 5 lbs. 12 oz. Good luck and keep us updated.

Thank you Jennifer. I have started my Fenugreek and tried the Goat Rue (yuck!) won't do that again. The Fenugreek should do the trick all by itself, I guess. I am hoping to have him home today and have to pick up my pump this morning. Didn't get back to town early enough yesterday. xxxxxfingersxxxxx that everything goes well this afternoon.

Thanks

Shannon how exciting!!!! Yes, just nurse with your SNS and pump after feeds when you can. Make sure you get help with your latch from an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Having a good latch is key and will bring in your milk quickly as well as eliminate any problems and soreness. Breastfeeding should NOT hurt so if it does you need to recheck the latch.

The blessed thistle and fenugreek work hand in hand. Take 3 capsules of each three times a day.
