I seem to be doing very well and my supply is good. I don't get a lot when I pump, but I never did with my bio son either. However, he is only nursing now and even though it is pretty often, there is still milk there after my feeding is done. Should I stop the meds and herbs or keep on them? When do I stop doing the protocol?

Thanks

Most women have to continue taking the domperidone long term. My doctor wanted me to wean off of them and I e-mailed Dr. Jack Newman and he said he recommends staying on the until baby is eating solids really well (around a year) and then slowly trying to wean off of them.
You could try to reduce your dose slowly and add back on if your supply dips.
I lowered my dose of Blessed Thistle (to 1 pill 3 times a day), but am still taking the domperidone and Fenugreek. But I am lucky that the dom is covered by my insurance, so cost's me almost nothing.

Wow. I guess I just assumed that once the baby was getting enough, that his demand would keep the milk supply up. I'm not looking forward to taking Fenugreek for a year. I smell of maple syrup in a bad way!

Jenmarko is correct. You can however ease back and maybe off of the Fenugreek once baby is getting enough> I wouldn't try to reduce the Dom too much. In order of whats works most for producing it is Dom, then Fenugreek then Blessed Thistle. Mostly Blessed Thistle helps the Fenugreek and keeps it from upsetting your tummy. So if you find you don't need it you can eliminate the BT. Hope that helps

Try backing off the fenugreek too if that is the issue. If your supply is great, you might not need it. If it drops, add it back in. I stopped the fenugreek and Blessed Thistle when I had an appendicitis. I couldn't tolerate it for a while afterward. My supply did decrease (but partly because of all the trauma with the ruptured appendix and not being able to feed baby as often because of surgery and some meds). I went back on them and it did increase again.

Ok, great. Thanks. I think I will give the Fenugreek another week and then try to cut back or go off of it. The smell is just more than I can take. Luckily, nobody else really notices unless they are very very close to me... but, I smell it! I am showering 3x per day which is going to get more difficult soon when my hubby returns to work!

Thanks again!
