And it wasn't with the pump. I always hand express when I am done pumping.

Well today I pumped, massaged/wiggled/tickled, pumped some more--very little production--and then hand expressed afterward. I got a huge spray expressing by hand. I just don't think that the pump does a great job of getting my milk out.

My sister the lactivist has a great saying. The pump sucks you, but the baby milks you. Well the saying sounds better in Spanish, but there you go.

That is great. I know how frustrated you've been. I hope it gets easier.

Hi,
I am new to this, can't even really figure out this posting thing!
My name is Linda, and I live in Cochambamba Bolivia.

I found this site and was very excited at the possiblity of relacting. We are in the process of adopting our 7th child, Audrey.
She came to us right after birth and we welcome her with open arms. I started the protocol a week later, since we had a grandson born 3 months early and I traveled to Oregon to help out.

I stopped the Yasmin on Sat and was delighted to see a few drops on Sunday. I breast feed our 4 sons and had an ample supply. I feel a little discouraged that I still have just a few drops, and that my left breast seems to have less than my right.

I expected the milk supply to be like when I had my sons. Is this unreasonable?
What about the difference between manuel pumping and electric?

I orginally used a la leche tube pump which I hardly had to work at, milk just poured out.

I would appreciate any insight and advise. It's been 19 years since I last lactated.

Thanks!
Linda

Linda - I think it is unreasonable to expect the milk supply to be like our bio sons. I bf my bio son and my adopted daughter. It was far easier to bf bio, because the milk was already there. I am now exclusively bf dd, but it took some time to build a supply. Most people it takes about a month or two. I have a double electric pump and I couldn't have done it without it. You might want to get a lactaid or a SNS and try to breastfeed with that until your supply increases. Putting the baby to breast should help your supply too.
Good luck.

Thanks Jennifer,

I am trying to be patient!~
My daughter is happy to nurse off of the breast for at least 20 minutes or more before she takes the bottle, so I think that is better than the pump! I haven't had a lot of luck with the medela electric. Could just be me. Hopefully with her emptying each breast every feeding, the milk will come sooner.
I did use the lact aid system for the month previous, it was ok, but I found that Audrey would often take the tube off with her first suck thrashing. smile

I do have a question. How long do you continue the domp medicine after your milk supply is fully in?

Taking the blessed thistle and Fenugreek.

thanks
Linda

You continue taking the dom throughout your nursing relationship. Some women taper off of it or decrease their dosage but it seems to be different for each woman so all you can do is try later.

Yes, I'm still on the dom and dd is 7 1/2 months old. I e-mailed Dr. Newman and he said he suggests staying on the dom until at least a year and then you can see about tapering it off and see if your supply is affected.
