On average how long did it take before your milk came in? I've been pumping for a little over a week and I'm still only getting drops.

I'm just curious as to where the rest of you were after a week of pumping. Also, I did the massages and all that and it seemed to diminish my flow even further. Is that possible?

TIA for the feedback.

Dantan,
I was on the protocol for 8 months before I started pumping. I did get milk very fast, but I had a baby already (it was a last second placement and I pumped the first time 1 hour before we were placed with her). I was up to about 1 ounce per pumping by the end of the first week and she was exclusively bf from 2 weeks on.
I know there are a lot of other people that the process was much slower. The pump is just not as efficient as a baby. I was using the PJ Limerick and I do think it is better than most pumps, so I was lucky.
Massage did help me I think. I would massage my breasts while pumping or breastfeeding.
Good luck.
Jennifer

I was on the protocol for 10 months. I have been pumping since July 3 and I am getting less than 1/2 oz. per 24 hours. But it keeps increasing every day. In my case, the massages and shaking do seem to bring out more milk.

Hi Datan,

We're about on the same schedule. Our daughter Audrey is 7 weeks old. I was on the accelerated protocol, and at first, I was very disappointed at the first drops, and the apparent lack of increased supply. I think I had way high expectations from when I nursed our bio sons over 19 years ago.
Since this last week, Audrey has been nursing off both breast for a min of 20 minutes, longer if I let her. I definitely feel more milk, although I haven't measured it since she drinks it!

Be encouraged, I believe it is totally worth the effort, even if it's not the full supply. There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing your child at the breast, knowing you are giving her/him life from your body.

press on!
Linda
