I put her to breast within te first ten minutes of life, she latched on like a pro. it is a beautiful experience.
I'm feeding her on breast, every 2 hours) and pumping when ever i can (3 times a day, she seems to milk me very well, and it is a luxury to feed compared to pumping.
It seems like a miracle.

(GS gave birth to my baby girl, Amelia 10/13/08 born 6.03 pm 7.7 oz)

how much should i be pumping?
thanks

Marica.

Marica - Congratulations! Once we were ebfing, I pumped after 3-4 sessions a day. I did it after the last feed before bed, after the middle of the night feed and after the first two feeds in the morning. I eventually dropped off the morning feeds and continued with the night and middle of the night feeds (with the theory that there was more time before the next feed at those times). I continued for 4 months at those times. I think I was a bit crazy with worry and trying to increase supply. I don't remember what your supply was before, but my daughter was stopped at 2 - 2 1/2 oz for a while. In retrospect, I think she was just small and that is all she wanted, but I worried all the time she wasn't getting enough, hence all the pumping. I built up a great supply and still have milk in the freezer and dd is 10 months (and still ebf).

Marica Congratulations!!!!

How much you pump is totally up to you and what you can fit in. If she is nursing well (and it sounds like she is)and she has 6-8 very wet diapers a day. You don't have to rely on pumping. If you still feel full after she has nursed or she falls asleep before finishing side #2 then go ahead and pump. You only need to pump for 10 minutes after feeds too. Don't wear yourself out. Relax and enjoy your new baby girl. smile

thanks ladies,
I hope to be making enough to eBfeed until she is maybe 1 and a half or two, like Jennifer. when i do pump I get about 1 oz total sometimes less depending on how long she nursed.
It's out of this world magical experience and beautiful, she depends on me for her food and comfort and I am making milk, WOW!!
In the hospital i got a lot of smart arse remarks about my daughter going hungry, i would say she is now but gets filled up when she has finished nursing. Other doctors just can't believe this is possible. my delivery doctor told me i will not be able to make more than the 5oz a day that i was making that week, well i made an extra oz the next week!
This experience makes the protocol Worth all the pain and trouble 10 times over!
Any-one reading this -- hope it inspires you to stick with it and don;t be shy to put on a little extra fat, it makes milk!
Marica.

Marica - You just exude happiness. It is so wonderful. I would usually get between 1/2 -1 oz after a feed. That doesn't seem like much, but it definitely adds up. I had a lot that I was able to freeze. I suggest freezing in 2 oz bags at first. It gives you some flexibility when you go to use it.
