I have BF my DD for 8 months now using Dom and the herbs, and have a great supply.

I am wondering what would happen at this point if I started weaning away from the dom. I read where one gal did this and continued to have a good supply. Wouldn't your body be use to producing the milk EVEN if it didn't have the dom?

Also, what is the normal way to start the true weaning from breast, with this protocol? I am looking to finish BF by 11 months.
thanks

Hi there. I didn't wean off the dom until dd was 24 mos old and I did it very slowly over the course of months. My supply did drop dramatically but I still certainly have enough to continue to meet her needs....she nurses A LOT.
My thought is that if you plan to be done BF by 11 mos (ps why not go 12 to make it to the minimum recommended length of BF?) to start to wean off the dom VERY slowly, starting now, dropping a pill every couple of weeks. Your supply would likely slowly decrease and would be an easier transition/weaning for the baby.
Not sure, those are just my thoughts. Best of luck to you!

Mindy

Thanks for the advise. I don't want any abrupt changes for my DD, so I will probably take it slow, as you and Lalle have suggested.

The 11 months was just a ball park figure, depends on whether or not she gets top teeth anytime soon!

thanks again

Can I ask? What concerns you about her top teeth coming in?

The teeth didn't affect bf with either my son or daughter. There were times it was a little uncomfortable when the teeth rested on the breast, but if I unlatched them and relatched again, the discomfort went away. My daughter did bite me once and I just said no and took her off. She never did it again.

When I e-mailed Dr. Newman about decreasing the dom, he said he would wait until my daughter was at least a year and was solidly on solid foods. She is 14 months and I still haven't decreased. I am planning on weaning by 16-18 months, but haven't made a plan on how I will decrease the dom. I will probably e-mail Dr. Newman to see what he suggests.
