Hello,

Would anyone mind sharing their experiences of inducing lactation and then breastfeeding when the baby (or in my case babies) are born in the hospital?

I am concerned as I am on the protocol but I am unsure how receptive the hosptial staff will be or if I will have a space to breastfeed? Other women who have induced lactation and worked with a surrogate have told me that they had to try and breastfeed for the very first time in front of their surrogate and their surrogates entire family(resulting in her quickly quitting breastfeeding)... I Really want this to work but will also be very uncomfortable in that situation...
thanks!

I guess it depends on the hospital. My surrogate was in the hospital with PTL (luckily, they were able to stop it), and the hospital staff was very receptive to the whole idea. The NICU nurse was encouraging me to keep pumping, and told me that once the babies are born I will have access to the on-staff LC they have in the NICU.

It was funny because I didn't even volunteer the fact that I was attempting to induce lactation, they asked me as if they assumed that of course I would be. The question was along the lines of, "are you already pumping your breasts?"

I hope your hospital is equally as forward thinking.

Best,
Nicole
