I have read enough on these boards to know that the overwhelming majority of you experienced moms prefer the Lact Aid over the SNS. OK, here is related question: Have any of you just used a bottle with medical tubing as shown in Dr. Newman's videos? That looks as if it would work fine, but I am wondering if there are potential problems with this method that I should know about. 50 feet of 1/16 inch medical tubing is about $8 on Amazon, and I was going to buy some non-tippy Evenflo glass bottles anyway. Any thoughts or experiences, helpful moms?

Thanks-Jenny M

Hi Jenny,

I didn't use a bottle like you have suggested but I did find the lact aid far less obvious then I 'think' a bottle would be. I liked that the L.A lay flat and I could nurse discreetly. I was able to purchase my lact aid from this forum and I found that I could actually re use the pouches by washing them out and drying them, so the cost wasn't out of my price range.

In any case, good luck!

I use the lactaid but have rigged it up to a bottle like the videos show. I actually prefer to use the bottle system and i just rest it inside my shirt while I feed. I use the lactaid bags occasionally but mostly just the bottles. It seems more convenient for me. The only problem I have with the bottles is that they tend to pressurize and milk starts flowing out as the bottle warms up.
I dont see why that set up wouldnt work for you. Good luck !

Thank you. I think that I will just buy some medical tubing and plan to use it with the bottles as a supplementer. I don't really mind that what I am doing will be obvious. I have heard some people complain about the maintenance required to use a Lact-Aid, so I'm thinking that the bottle/tubing set-up would be easier in that respect.

I definately find cleaning the lactaid is no harder or time consuming than cleaning a dozen bottles a day! I remember those days and this is much easier! I just make sure to take it fully apart once in a while to give it a real good clean. Also, I always rinse with distilled water to avoid water buildup. So far, cleaning has not been a problem for me. YOur system might be just fine though. See how you do and then go from there!
