Is this good?

I am on the 80mg of Dom and pump 7-8 times a day. Can't seem to get myself up in the middle of the night though my last pump of the day is usualy around 10 PM and first pump of the day around 6:30 am.

I can not tolerate the herbs and eat oatmeal a few times a week.

Baby is due in 2.5 weeks.

Sounds like you are doing great. Once the baby starts nursing your supply will increase. Have you tried the herbs in capsule form? I find if you eat something small with them it is better. How long were you on the protocol?

Hey congrats! That milk adds up. If you can, you might try to up your pumping to 12 times per day. That really should increase your milk production faster. The baby will help a lot too. Good luck!

I was on the protocol for 3 months before starting to pump. I was taking Provera 2.5 plus dom. 80 mg.

I feel like the more I pump, the less I pump each time so I kind of like spreading it out to every 2 and a half to three hours during the day. I was pumping every 2 hours during the day 8 times a day and getting the same amount as pumping 7 times a day. I know I should get up in the middle of the night to pump but it is just SOOOO hard to do! I should committ to to it for a few days to see if my supply increases a lot. If it does, that might be motivation enough for me to get up.

I did try the herbs in the capsules at each meal and just had terrible tummy aches.

Hi Jill,

You should check out this article on Kelly Mom. It was very helpful to me in learning about supply and pumping. I COMPLETELY understand what you mean when you say you want to wait to pump until you know there will be something to collect. It is so frustrating to pump and not see anything. BUT - the article talks about how the speed of production is dependent on how empty the breast is. It's quite interesting and may help you think about differently. As far as pumping at night, I put the pump right on my night stand when I go to bed so that when the alarm goes off I literally just have to hook it up. You can be less awake for that! Let me know what you think of the article.

Also, are you hand expressing after you pump? I can always get something after I pump and I usually will spray it in the breast shield so it collects in the bottle. This will help ensure you are draining the breasts as much as possible.

Jill,

I agree with Claudia-the way you breasts know that the need to make more milk is when they are empty. You will find in 3-4 days of pumping more that you are making more milk. You might also think about increasing your Domperidone to 120 mg/day. I know that the protocol says 90mg. But if you look on the message boards you will find that quite a few of us, including myself had to bump it up to 120mg.

Good luck you are doing great!!

These are all really great suggestions -- thank you, thank you!

Putting the pump next to my night stand is a great idea...but then don't I have to get up and put the milk in the frig? Or, do you also have a cooler by the bed?

And it makes so much sense thet the body will continue to produce more milk when the breasts are empty.

I am a little concerned about increaseing the domperidone because I haven't found a lot of research out there on higher doses of domperidone and the risks. I know the benefits but am concerned about the risks.

Also, I do hand express at the same time that I pump. I don't usually continue the hand expression when I'm done but I try to squeeze every last drop as I am also pumping. I ususally end up pumping for about 30 minutes beacause I have drops comeing out for that long even though I may only end up with 5 ML a session.

Yes, I keep a little cooler by the bed and that way I don't even have to get out of bed. It makes it a lot easier. If I wake up enough I have a hard cover book by my bed as well that I will read during the 20 minutes. Hardcover because it will stay open without holding it. Kinda sad but it makes the 20 minutes go by faster.
