Just want to chime in with agreement about increasing your dom to 120 mg/day. There actually has been a study done about long-term dom usage which found that up to 120 mg/day for as long as 12 years has been found to be safe. The patients in the study who were taking dom for digestive problems, though, not to induce lactation. I read about this study in *Making More MIlk*, which I highly recommend.

Hope that helps-Jennifer in Michigan

As a health educator, I need to know the science behind stuff. A summary of one research study that 120 mg of dom is safe does not give me peace of mind. I need to see the entire paper. How many subjects were there? Who did the study? How long was the study? Is there any effect on the baby from the increased dose? Etc. Etc. If you have other studies that you have seen about this, please let me know. Thank you!

In the references section of the book, it mentions an article in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, 2007, 102 (9): 2036-45.

A second article referenced is in: Drugs, 1998, 56 (3): 429-45

A third is: Amer. Journ. of Gastroent. 1997, 92 (6): 976-80

About 1% of your intake of dom. will get into the milk. As Dr. Newman points out, from the baby's perspective, it is well worth a very small exposure to a relatively safe drug in order to gain precious breastmilk. In other countries, dom. is sometimes prescribed for babies at much higher doses than your breastmilk would contain.

Hope that helps-Jennifer in MI
