Hey ladies! I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch, BUT, we're going to be shown to a bmom tomorrow or Monday that is due 7-4-03!!

I have only been on the protocol for 3 days (since 5-27-03). IF we get matched up, will this give me enough time to get milk in?

I am taking Yasmin & Dom. The accelerated protocol says that you can start pumping after 30 days of Yasmin& Dom if there's signifiant breast changes...30 days on the Yasmin would be through June 25--if the baby comes on time, that would only give me 9 days of pumping!! YIKES!!

Any other suggestions on things I can do?? I know need to get my herbs ordered right now!

Also, I guess I'm the dummy out here...I just don't get the supplementing with Lactaid?? Do I need a special device or something? I realize that's an option if we're pushed on time.

There is still a possibility that the bmom won't choose us, but I just want to be prepared if necessary. Hopefully we will find out in the next couple of days...still, though, July 4th is only 36 days away! The other situations we're being posed with aren't due until July & August.

I will keep yall posted on the adoption status.

Your plan to stay on the meds for 30 days then pump for 9 is the best option right now. You will need the Lact-aid...they have a website , just type in www.lact-aid.com , get at least 2, but most women seem to rec. buying six units. You can also sometimes find them used.

I went to the website & checked it out...thanks for telling me where to go!! Now...what I couldn't find on the website (unless I'm just blind as a bat) is what do you put in the feeding the device...in other words do you put formula in there or what? Am I the only one that doesn't know anything about this??

Hi Candace, You can put formula in it or donated breatmilk or your breastmilk if you have some saved. I used a mixture of donated breastmilk and formula for my son at first. Then when I found out he was allergic to milk, I used donated breast milk along with goats milk. I don't blame you for being confused about the gadget-- right now there are cartons of milk in the stores called Lactaid, as well as tablets for people who are lactose intolerant. Those items have nearly the same name but are totally unrelated to the Lactaid supplementer for nursing! I don't know why they all had to choose such similar names!

Do you know where you can get donated breast milk? Since I might only be able to pump for a week, I probably won't have any of my own milk stored.

Is there one formula that's better than another for using the Lact-Aid?

I am hoping that I will be able to get a good supply in...out of curiousity, I tried to express milk today & got several drops. I've now only been on the Yasmin & Dom for 4 days. Maybe that's a good sign that I will have milk come in...

As Mary said , you can use formula, donated bm or yours.
The formula I would rec. is Carnation Good Start, the protein in it is whey, not casein, so it is more similar to the protein in breast milk. Nona runs a mother to mother breast milk donation program...just e-mail her. Also, there are lot's of milk banks around the country. You need a MD prescription to get the milk, it is pasteurized , and is something like 2 dollars an ounce, I think that is what I remember reading about the one in Deleware.
I would contact Nona, she can hook you up. It is good that you can express so many drops after only 4 days. Try to leave your breasts alone now so the milk making apparatus, the ducts and alveoli can develop to their fullest. Good luck, take care, Cathy
