Good morning!

So I have a dilemma and am hoping you experienced ladies can give some advice. I started the regular protocol with Provera on September 10th. I'm due to stop Provera and start pumping on Nov 19th. We are going to Disney on Nov. 25th. I think I will be able to pump twice a day and once overnight while we are there, but I highly doubt I will be able to do anymore. So of course I'm concerned that basically I will be a week behind. So I was wondering if I should:

1. Start pumping a week early to make up for the slower week we are on vacation
2. Wait until we get home on Dec 2 to start pumping so there's no interruption
3. Start pumping as scheduled, do what I can do at Disney, and not worry about it... It will all work out in the end!

Thanks for your input!

Oh and I wanted to share some awesome news... a girl I work with who is still nursing/pumping for her 14 month old said she has more milk than she knows what to do with and offered to give it all to me for our baby AND to continue pumping for me! She usually donates to the local milk bank so she's been tested for everything! I felt like I was given the best gift ever... well, after the baby, of course!

Daisy,

Congratulations on the milk donor, that's great. If it were me, I would start pumping the week you get home from vacation. You don't want to have the stress of wanting to pump but not being able to while I vacation. You would also have to travel with the pump which is just another thing to carry. I would just commit to pumping on a regular schedule when you got back and have a more routine schedule.

Daisy,
I also would wait until you got home from vacation. The more time you can put into it, the better the outcome will be. I think you really want to be able to pump at least 5-6 times a day to be effective.

I looked back through posts and saw the baby is due January 7, right? So that still gives you a month to pump before he/she is born. I would just REALLY pump as much as you can in that time and see what your supply is. Also, sometimes more time on the protocol is better.

That is great about the milk donor. If I hadn't been able to achieve a full supply, I totally would have looked for someone to donate their milk.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your replies! Yes the baby is due Jan 7. So should I stay on the Provera longer... 2 more weeks until I get home and start pumping?

Thanks again!

Daisy

Hi Daisy,

Yes, stay on the Provera until you start pumping. It's the drop in the hormones and the stimulation from the pumping that triggers your milk production.

I second what Claudia said. Stay on the provera and stop it on the day you are ready to commit to pumping.

Yay! We adopted 2 girls. They are fun (but full of drama).
