Hi all:

I have been on the NG Protocol for 5 months and began pumping on Friday in preparation for the birth of our son via a gestational surrogate in about 5 weeks.

The first 48 hours I got about 1/2 oz, the next 48 I got about 2oz, and by the end of today will have about 3.5oz for the 3rd 48 hour period. I am looking for some encoragement that with this start I should have enough to at least partially nurse my baby by his birth. I am pumping every 2 to 3 hours and once during the night, but it seems like a lot of pumping for very little milk. I rented a Medela Lactina Select pump.

I would also like to know if you ever get the sensation of your milk "coming in" with induced lactation? I don't really feel anything, but am producing a little milk.

Thanks a bunch!

Dale

Wow.. .don't be discouraged! That much milk so soon. Your supply will continue to increase. Your doing great now. With induced lactation you don't really feel a letdown. a few might.. but most don't. Keep us posted! <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" />

Hi Dale,
FWIW, this is my second time to induce lactation. I have done dom both times but not bcp's. For me the milk has 'come in' much more gradually than it did after I gave birth. Some of the swelling in the days right after giving birth is not even milk, but rather extra blood supply related to the sudden hormone shifts-- inducing moms may get a bit of that after quitting bcp's, but probably not to the point of getting the hugely sore rock-hard boobs that bio moms feel. It sounds to me like you are doing great, esp for pumping such a short time! I took a week to get my first half ounce!! From what I have read, those first few ounces are the slowest in coming for most moms.

With that much milk, that fast, you are doing great! You should feel confident that you may not have to use the LactAid all the time. It's too early to tell if you will have a full supply, but with that fast of an increase, I think you are well on your way!
