Hey Y'all!

So I was cleaning out my PIS the other day and took off the membrane section and to my horror there was old milk in there!!!! I always force soapy water through the horns down through the membranes everytime, but this got me really worried that there might be bacteria in my stored milk!


Any thoughts?

Baby is four weeks away at this point. The BM is being a little funny at times....not in her resolve, but in wanting stuff. But we are firm and the guy facillitating is helping alot.

So more to come....but what about my PIS???

I think your milk will be fine..Your milk only went past the old milk.. and your milk has bacteria fighting principles in it anyway.. all your natural immunities. But an another note. I always take my horns apart and wash after pumping. I don't take the membrane off the yellow cap. But always take the yellow cap off. It just takes second to do it.. I also have an electric Avent sterilizer. I use 2 sets of horns. I use one set wash it out. Wait until I use the second set. Then I was them both in hot soapy water and put in the sterilizer. I really like it. It only takes 9 minutes to sterilize..

The LC at the hospital where I rented my pump told me to take the whole thing apart every time, including taking the membrane off of the yellow cap. She gave me extra membranes in case I washed one down the sink.

I also have the Avent sterilizer and love it. I just rinse everything out and pop it in the microwave and it is all ready for the next session.

This happened to me, too, Eden. I had problems getting the caps off at first, and I was afraid of breaking something, so I quit trying to get them off. I had never even seen a breastpump before, so I had no idea what was supposed to do what!
Well, I now take the yellow caps off when I clean it, but I leave the membrane on there. But as Nona said, don't worry about the milk you have stored so far. And don't feel like a lone ranger! Hi Everyone,

Breastmilk is anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial. So no worries but do try to at least rinse the membranes after use with hot water OK?
