My nips are pretty sore when I pump each first round of 7 minutes and then the pain lessons during the second round of 7 minutes. I'm wondering if maybe the breastshield/horn I'm using is too small. How can you tell? The sides of my nipples rub against the sides, is that correct?

Would LOVE some help to lesson the pain. <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Kellie, your nipples should not rub against the sides of the flange-- that means you are either not 'centered' or need a bigger flange. I am just at the edge of needing a bigger flange with mine-- I have to get centered JUST right or it hurts. SO check and see if you just need to adjust--- but if there is no way to make your nipples NOT rub the sides, then you need a new flange, esp if you are sore.
Good luck!

The base of my nipples rub the sides.. My nipples are not near that big except during pumping. If its just the base.. you might need some lasholin... or adjust your pumping to lower suction. Look at your nipples an make sure they are not red and really inflamed.. that would be a sign of thrush. If none of above works.. Then Mary might be right.. you need larger horns

Thanks you guys for your suggestions. As a matter of fact, today I met with a LC and she determined that the shield looked to be the correct size but my PIS settings were REALLY wrong. I had it set at the slowest speed and close to the maximum pressure. No wonder I was so sore. I pumped at that visit with the new settings, medium speed and low pressure, and whew, what a change. I don't need to do my yoga breathing anymore! Hee Hee

Thanks again
