I had been supplementing with frozen breast milk in my LA but then we ran out. We then switched to Infomil Lacto Free formula and since we did that, Molly's system locked up. She hasn't had a bowl movement on her own (with out the help of anal stimulation) since and she is very uncomfortable. We took her in for her 2 week check and her weight was up to 6-7. My husband and I are at our wits end and don't know what to do. He says I should just try to nurse her without any supplementing and I am torn. We are in agreement that the formula that we were using is definitely out, but I would love to not have to use the LA or bottles. Today I did try to just nurse and it seems that she still roots around Would love to hear your suggestions.
Thanks

Hey there,

According to our ped. babies can sometimes have a system that works out only 1 BM a week....rare, but it happens.

I think it would be a far worse thing to have the baby wanting for calories than being constipated. Her syatem may need to adjust, but she needs the calories just to be able to make a BM.

Don't stress...it hurts your milk supply, remember that they are amazingly resilient little critters.

Best,

Eden

If the formul is Iron Fortified it might be too much iron for her. Call the doctor and see if you could get a stool softner for her.
Good luck!

I agree with Eden. Feed that baby as much as she wants to eat. You can always try a different formula to use in the LactAid, or use a stool softener.
If you want her to get as much of your milk as possible, try feeding her just on your milk until your breasts are empty, and then add the LactAid. This will make sure that baby is getting as much of your milk as possible, and even stimulate your breasts more, to make more milk.
Ask your pediatrician for other formula suggestions.
