Thank you for thinking of me. I have finally found a computer I could borrow. It's at the hospital where my son has been born!!
Jeran Michael arrived on November 6th, at 6:14 PM. He was 7 lbs 12oz, and 21 inches long. He is beautiful! I got to be in the delivery room, and cut the cord. His birthmom had a long labor, but didn't have to push long at all.
Before delivery, the Dr pulled me aside to go over some things, and I mentioned that I will be breastfeeding. He was amazed and excited. He introduced me around to everyone on the maternity floor, practically, including the breastfeeding clinic, that I didn't even know they had. The girls in the clinic about passed out with excitement when they heard I was an adoptive mom, and how successful I have been. Everyone here has been so supportive. I am so glad I had the opportunity to mention my plans. The Dr arranged for me to have a room on the maternity floor the first night. Jeran has to stay 48 hours, so this will be his second night. The room I was staying in isn't available tonight, but they arranged for me to stay in "The Guest House" across the street. It is really nice. And the nice ladies there had already heard that I was a breastfeeding adoptive mom, and wanted to know all the details, too. They were excited and thrilled.
I have nursed Jeran for every feeding. For the most part, he has been very lazy, and sleepy. It takes effort to get him to latch on well, but we are working on it. I have lots of help here. I can't imagine what would have happened if I had tried to nurse for the first time at the hotel room all by myself. He hasn't had to work very hard, because it seems like every time I sit down to nurse, I am just dripping everywhere. All he has to do is open his mouth a little, and the milk starts dripping in. I need to pump a little more often. I think I will be able to manage it better when I get to bring him to the hotel. That first feeding I gave him, I hadn't pumped all day, so when I finally got a chance to pump, I pumped 18.5 ounces! The poor little guy! It was everywhere! But, at least I know he got some. There was no way he couldn't have.
Anywyay, thanks for letting me ramble on. I will try to check the board later, but I might not get to it until tomorrow. And then I won't have a computer to access until Friday, the 14th, when Jim and Daphne will arrive.
Thank you, everyone for all your support and help all these months while I pumped! None of this would be possible without you guys. Most especially Lenore!!
