do I need once the baby comes.? Right now I am getting a good 8 ounces in 3-4 pumping sessions a day. I haven't been the most regular about the number of sessions, but have been getting 8 ounces a day for about a week now. What is considered a full supply?

I think it is one and a half ounces per pound of baby. Or about 25 ounces for a newborn. I think that's correct.....

From the "Nursing Mothers Companion" Appendix B:

hours old - oz per day
24-48 - 4oz
48-72 - 5oz
72-96 - 8oz
96-120 - 12oz

then it is based on weight. There is a table to help you calculate how much milk your baby needs based on his weight. An example is a 7.5lb baby needs 20oz of milk a day.

Hope this helps, your local library probably has the book, it says over 500,000 copies sold.

hugs, Jean

1 week ~ 10ml 2 weeks ~20ml 3 weeks ~ 30ml 4 weeks ~ 45ml 5 weeks - back to ~30ml after 2 days w/o serious pumping
