I just ordered my Domp and yasmine last night. After reading the posts I have read about weight gain. Is this common? I DONT want to gain weight. Is this a common on the protocol?

I've been on the protocol for 4 weeks and have not gained a pound! I am following the Zone diet, although I really only stick to it for breakfast and lunch. I lost about 13 lbs in the beginning but since I started the protocol 4 weeks ago I haven't lost any more weight. Then again, I haven't been as strict with my diet as I was in the beginning when I stuck to it 24/7. I did a cycle of IVF late in the summer and I REALLY gained with that. I don't think the hormonal level from the bcp's and the dom are likely to cause the sorts of changes that the IVF hormones caused so I'm pretty optimistic that I won't gain weight . . .That is if I can stay away from the Peanut Butter Panic ice cream Anyway, having dealt with an eating disorder and being ALLERGIC to diets, I find the Zone diet really manageable, although it is more complicated than most diets. It is far easier to stick with, however, than low carb or low fat diets since it recommends moderation (i.e. normal food ). My nutritionalist considers it one of the more healthy eating plans out there. Try reading Dr Sear's "A week in the Zone" or go here http://www.formulazone.com/ for more info. Forwarned is forarmed so if you go in to the protocol with a plan you should be ok. Good luck! Vanessa

typical weight gain for the protocol is about 10 lbs. And you drop that pretty rapidly when you start nursing.

10 pounds!!! That is still alot. I am going to start the acc. protocol as soon as I get my meds. I ordered them a few days ago. Is 10 pounds common still on the acc protocol. Since your not on the pills as long. Is it the bc pills or the domp that causes the weight gain.

If you continue to eat healthy the weight you may gain will come off easily as you breastfeed. Stay active or increase your activity level and you won't have to worry. A few pounds is worth it being able to nurse your child and give them all the benefits. I think it is the pill that causes the gain but I am not sure.

I was a little worried about gaining weight as well before starting the accelerated protocol, but after almost two months it has been minimal.
It does seem to vary very much from person to person, you can't really predict it. Several women here, myself included, have done very well on low-carb regimes. But you'll know best what works for you.
And Laurie is so right, gaining some weight if it comes to that does not seem like a very high price to pay for being able to breastfeed your baby....

Hi Ladies,
One way to help reduce the weight gain is to increase protein and reduce carbohydrates. You can also omit the blessed thistle when you start pumping. It's an apetite stimulant but keep in mind that it's in the protocol because it helps to relieve the stomach upset that can accompany fenugreek and domperidone.
Fondly,

Is that the only reason for taking the Blessed Thistle? I didn't have problems with the Domperidone before I started pumping (and taking herbs), and I didn't have problems when I took Fenugreek by itself 4 years ago, so I would be all too happy to drop those extra 9 capsules per day if they're not really necessary...... Also, Lenore, do you know if the weight gain is due to the Yasmine or the Domperidone? When Yasmine first came out it was advertised as a pill that didn't cause weight gain, but that could be because of the diuretic-like component.... Is this a chicken or the egg question?
Thanks, Karen
