Hello:
I'm on my 10th day of pumping and I've increased to an ounce per day. Yay! That feels good.

I tried both the pumping for 20 minutes straight and the pumping for 5, massage, then 5 more. My breasts do better with the non-stop pumping it seems. Also, I turned it up to Speed 5 on the dial per Nona's suggestion. That did increase the amount overall.

I have a couple of questions:
I noticed that I don't have as much milk in the evening. My 9 a.m. pumping has the most and during the 3 a.m. pumping, I sometimes only have a few drops. Isn't it true that the prolactin level is higher at night? Should I be seeing the bigger amount at night? I was thinking that I didn't let down because I was so groggy or something like that.

Sometimes milk is dripping down the horn instead of into the chamber even though I'm pressing the horn against my breast rather tightly. Should I be placing my nipple higher up in the chamber or something like that? How is it leaking out?

What does it mean to have the milk start "streaming"? I have fast dripping somewhat like a leaky faucet. Does streaming mean a continuous flow when more comes out?

Thank you for your help!

Increasing an ounce a day is GREAT!! CONGRATULATIONS!
I have quite a bit more in my morning feeding then my night feeding. I dont get up in the middle of the night however to pump. I too just pump for 15-20 I then hand express after that for just a few seconds. Im not sure how the milk is leaking out. Maybe it is the horn size. I dont know that one. Just wanted to say congratulation on your increasing milk supply.

Thanks, Julie:
I need all the encouragement I can get to do this. I didn't increase an ounce a day but, rather, I increased up to an ounce. Yesterday, I made a full ounce total. But that's still pretty good for me. I'm keeping at it!

Your prayers and support helps.

That is really good. You havent been pumping very long and an ounce already is really good. In another post you said you used the lact aid before. Have you induced lactation before with your daughter (by the way she is adorable in the picture)? Keep up the good work. Keep us posted on your progress.

LoveyDovey,

My reactions have been the same. I am increasing daily and so will you !!

Since I've had all these less than 1 ounce bags to 1 ounce bags, I've combined them. Nowadays since my milk is coming in streams and constant drips I am a little over 1ounce a day, but I am bagging 2 ounces or slightly more.

The position of your breast in the horn makes difference in my milk outflow. ALso if I pump more often 4-6 times a day, I make my mark.

Hang in there you are doing great and you will increase before you know it !1

Hi LD:

The dripping sounds like you need a larger horn ... Medela makes up to 27 mm and a 30 mm (the one that comes with the PIS is 24 mm). I had the same problem and it helped a lot to get a larger horn. Also, until you get a larger horn, it is important not to press the horn in to hard to (ie. when you are trying to prevent the leaks) as this can hinder your milk flow, according to the LC I saw here locally.

Keep up the good work pumping ... you too Yasta!

Aloha,
Christina
