Hi there everyone! Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself a bit. Don't want to be lurking around and not participating. Long ' ta do' list today, but can take a few minutes. I won't go into the long infertility story, as 98% of the time I'm not there anymore (just on over tired days). I have a daycare business in my home, which is absolutley wonderful. My husband and I are now in the first group on the waiting list (of Canadian couples) to receive a baby from St. Vincent. I am five weeks in on the Newman-Goldfarb Regular Protocol. Met with my physician yesterday and we decided to 'bump things up a bit', as my response to the bcp we're using (miniovral) has been not quite as progressive as is described by Lenore. We started with a low dosage pill as previously I have been very sensitive to hormonal treetments. However, I have not experienced the increase in cup size-just fullness, shape, dicomfort, etc.-and it was concerning me. I don't know how important the size thing is, but I want to be as successful as possible (of course). I want to know if the 'whoosiness' goes away? Since about the third week I have constantly felt like I am in a canoe in the middle of the ocean; when I'm working, sitting, sleeping all the time! Anyone else feel like that? The lactation consultant (I'm her third adoptive breastfeeding mom) says it's a great sign, so I'm taking it in stride so far. Does anyone have experience with this? Am I weird? Any ideas on how to make it calm down? I thought I was dehydrated, so I've doubled my water intake (not a bad thing) but no luck! Just as a sign off topic, my mom (also an adoptive parent) was telling me that there's news out cautionning breastfeeding moms about Soy products effecting hormonal balances in infants (particularily boys). I am a non-dairy person...has anyone heard anything about this? Should I be switching to rice milk? Gotta get to the list now...blessings to all

Hi Laura,
Welcome to the Ask Lenore message boards.
Actually the Miniovral pill that you're taking does not have nearly enough progesterone to do the job. Please switch to Ortho 1/35. This contains the minimum necessary hormones in order to induce lactation. You should notice a difference in the response by your breasts within 2 weeks.
Warmest regards,
Lenore Goldfarb, Ph.D.,CCC,IBCLC Wife to Rob, Mom to Adam aged 13, and Ethan aged 9, both born via GS and breastfed via Regular Newman-Goldfarb Protocol.

Hi everyone. Thanks for your input Lenore. My GP and I realized on Friday that it wasn't high enough-especially since I haven't had the increase in cup size as the protocol mentions. So she gave me a prescription for Yasmin as it seemed to be the best according to the protocol, but I'm having difficulty finding someone to dispense it to me. The online site that is referenced in this site's resources cannot get it through customs. Would I be able to drive down to Bellingham, fill the prescription, and bring it back through customs myself? Would they just take it at customs and it would all be for nothing? Or is it worth it? Is Ortho comparable and available in Canada?

I think you would need a US prescription to fill it in the US. But I'm sure there are Doctors that would see you. I forget how long you have to prepare, but you could try the regular Ortho 1/35 pill. I would like to try Yasmin, but it seems not worth the effort and expense yet, considering we don't have a babe in sight right now. Customs wouldn't seize a prescription birthcontrol pill at a drive-through border crossing, I'm pretty sure. Course I probably wouldn't mention it either, so maybe that's why. Hmm. Where do you live? I'm in Chilliwack!

Hi mom to be from Chiliwack...nice to hear from you. What BCP are you using currently? I'm in Squamish. I know...I'd love to try Yasmin too, but not sure geting caught at the border is worth it. Lord only knows what the reprecussions would be! I know that all I would have to do is phone my GP's office and ask her for a prescription for one of the others on the protocol. Are you using any of them? Where are you adopting from? We are next on the list, but I decided to start anyways. It says on the regular protocol that at least 6 months is best case scenario, and our adoption consultant tells us that it shouldn't be any longer than that. Even if it is, I figure if I get a month or two of pumping in the freezer, then I'm that much further ahead once we get home! I guess I'll just fax my GP the list and see what she can do. It's annoying that they won't let you just go to Bellingham and buy the Yamin. It's my body damn it - and what a great excuse for a shopping trip! Blessings to all

Yes, I'm personally using Diane 35, which produces good breast changes but isn't part of the protocol anymore because it increases the risks of blood clots. But I have PCOS and Diane is the only way to get Cyproterone Acetate (a progestin that is also an anti-androgen) so I take it for that too. But with Adam I did the protocol with Demulen 35 and had great results (full milk supply.) I got it from planned parenthood (we don't have drug coverage) for $8 a pack, so it was great.
We are adopting through LDSFS, which is an agency in BC and Alberta, placing local children born in Canada. It's pretty cheap and has worked well for us so far!
Talk to you later,

Hi Kerry, Just a quick question? We too are adopting from LDSFS in the US. I am just curious how it works in Canada? How long are waits? Do the birthmothers pick you? We have been waiting for about a year in a half and no placement yet. We have had several adoption failures through designated adoptions. So I am just curiuos. Please feel free to e-mail me or private message. I tried logging in but my password was not on there I have not posted here in a long time. My e-mail is beaniebell@evenlink.com . Thanks, Bella

Hi Everyone,
In Canada you can substitute Yasmin for Ortho 1/35. I used the Ortho myself twice...worked like a charm.
