I've just communicated with the nursing consultant at the Medela website asking her opinion on which of the PIS pumps (original or advanced) they recommend for induced lactation. She wrote back that she recommends either the Lactina or the Symphony over either PIS because "the PIS is not a hospital grade pump." From my reading of this message board, it seems the PIS is the preferred pump. What do y'all make of her comments? Now I'm confused, I guess I thought the PIS was hospital grade. Thanks,

Beth, I rented and used the Medela Lactina (before the protocol). I did not like it, nor did I have very good results with it. Then when I did the protocol I bought a PIS, I really liked it and would highly recommend it.
I also have biological children and have used various other pumps before. I believe the pIS is the best pump I have used by far.

The "experts" repeatedly say this, yet practice and experience from all us inducing-lactation Mamas still shows that the PIS is not only the most economical option, but also gives excellent results. For what it's worth, go with the Original and save the extra $.

The PIS is a hospital grade pump.. Its the best. I have tried everything but the Syphony...(spelled wrong) And nothing gives the varible speeds like the PIS. They are quicker and I love that
