I have been on the Menopause protocol (Yasmin & Dom) for probably 7 mos and I have had no problems, I even have milk coming from my breasts. Once in a while when I dont have a bra on and reach into warm water or something I will get a wet spot on my shirt. I have not started pumping b/c we do not have a baby yet. I just had a question. I know that my breasts have milk in them and I woke up this morning with a sharp pain in my left breast (outside side). It kinda quit but then it has started up again. (It is like a sharp pain that comes and goes- like someone is stabbing me with a needle or something) Is it possible that I have a plugged duct or maybe more milk coming in or what?????

I just do not want to have any medical problems going into the holidays and I was concerned! Anyone who can help please help!!

Thanks for the help!!

I had the same twinges on the protocol. But mine were a few times a day. I believe its just your breasts developing more. You don't have a plugged duct yet since your not pumping.. You don't have enough milk for that. I just massaged the breast area that was giving me the stabbing pain

I have hand expressed off and on (which I know I shouldnt do but I dont want to loose what I have- and too anxious to get more) and last night I did hand express. Soooo is this still no big deal in your opinion? I did have the sore breasts and all when I first started the protocol and this is way different then that. I will not worry about it and just massage the sore spots and quit hand expressing off and on if you think it is no big deal!

Thanks

Hi Shelley,

Be a good girl and leave your breasts alone. You don't want to start anything right now. Give your breasts the time to develop their maximum potential without causing an oxytocin surge which is what the expressing does, and you should be fine. I know you're "afraid of losing what you have" but really what you are doing is settig yourself up for a problem. If you start expressing on a regular basis and don't keep it up, as with a proper pumping schedule, you can actually cause areas of engorgement that if not released can cause tissue damage and actually work against your having a good milk supply. So like I said, please leave your breasts alone.

If the pain worsens and you end up with a red area or a fever, email me at lenore@asklenore.info with your phone number and I'll be happy to talk with you about the situation.

Warmest regards,

Hi,

I've just started my protocal about 2 weeks ago and have noticed my breast have gotten some bigger, but I'm having twinging pains in my stomach. The funny thing about it is its only at night. Has anyone experienced that also.

PS Hi Shelley, We have the same name and daughters named the same, My Jordan is 17 now.

Thanks Shelley

Hi Shelley,

This is probably due to the domperidone. Have a little something to eat before bedtime. That should help. Domperidone was originally designed to help people with upper gastrointestinal problems. It tends to move food through your system rather quickly. So a little food may help.
