OP bethellen member B Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 12	I've just found out that there are no lactation consultants of any kind here in Taos where I live. The closest LLL is one hour away, and Santa Fe has a bunch of resources but that's 1.5 hours away. What would y'all suggest I do in this situation? Our GS baby is due in April so I have time to line other resources up, but I don't know what other resources there are! There is a LC at the hospital where our GS will deliver and I intend to work with her a lot during the week following the birth, but once I return home...??? Beth

Have you tried www.iblce.org which is the website for board certified lactation consultants? Just click on the "about IBLCE" button and the US registry pops up. See if they have a lactation consultant on staff Adoptive mommy to 4 , Last 2 adopted nursed. Youngest nursed till she was 5! Raising 2 grandbabies, as infants they were raised on donor breast milk

Believe me when I tell you that there are no LC's within at least an hour of me! There was one listed on the registry Lenore mentioned, but she has moved. Any additional suggestions? Beth

If you are planning to be present at the birth, the best thing would be to line up an IBCLC at the hospital to assist you with breastfeeding right away. If the GS is delivering in another city from you, then typically you would not fly right away. So you may have a week or two where the IBCLC would be able to help you. Usually that's enough time to get you sorted out and on your way to a great breastfeeding experience. OP bethellen member B Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 12	Our GS is delivering in California and she actually knows the lactation consultant who works at that hospital (its so great having a GS who's also a doula!). So I definitely intend to work plenty with the LC the week or so that we'll still be in California after the birth. I just didn't know if that would be enough to get us off to a good start. OP bethellen member B Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 12	Yes, there are tons of midwives up here. We have a free-standing birthing center staffed exclusively by direct-entry midwives. Some of them scare me, they seem to have so little experience, but others are very very experienced. I will contact them, thank you for the suggestion.
