Hi Ladies,
It used to be that we recommended nipple preparation for breastfeeding and pumping but we now know that this is not necessary. When latching your baby, his/her mouth goes PAST the nipple, and well and truly onto the breast. The same goes for the pump. Your nipple will elongate and form a teat which involves some breast tissue as well. The nipples themselves should be well centered in the pumping attachments, not touching the sides. And you should be fine.
Don't worry honey, I have Raynaud's syndrome which makes my nipples VERY sensitive, and breastfeeding and pumping are a breeze for me.
Warmest regards,
Lenore Goldfarb, Ph.D.,CCC,IBCLC Wife to Rob, Mom to Adam aged 13, and Ethan aged 9, both born via GS and breastfed via Regular Newman-Goldfarb Protocol.
