I have been pumping about 3x per day, I just started getting milk last week, I am taking 80mg Dom, Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle daily.....I am getting about 1/2 ounce per day total, and I am freezing it...I am also eating oatmeal every morning plus oatmeal cookies a time or two during the day (which I have definately noticed works!) now should I start pumping every 3 hours or so? I have noticed I can only get about a tablespoon or so at every session.....any help would be greatly appreciated....oh, I am getting VERY sore nipples, any suggestions??
Thanks so much,
Jenn

See if you can increase to 8 - 12x's per day (once in the middle of the night). Also, make sure your nipples are in the center of the chamber and the cone edge is resting past your aureole (sp?). Then your pump suction is not on the max. Maybe at the 3 out of 5 strength. I noticed that I was sore if I didn't center my nipple in the chamber.

Also, how long total have you been pumping? My milk started to increase after one month.

Sounds like you are doing well so far.

Thanks! I have noticed the positioning does help, and maybe I'm just weird, but my R-nipple works just fine, but my L-nipple doesn't work as well, my Lside is larger than the R and it doesn't "fit" as well into the cone! So I do have a harder time on my L side....right now each pumping session lasts about 10-15 minutes.....I try to pump until very little is coming out...it starts out a pretty steady drip, then slows.....so it is a slow process! I'll try pumping more often.....it is so hard to do while at work.....but I am getting that "full" feeling, so I suppose that is good news......
I went to the OB appt today with our birthmom (who is my sister) and we had an unplanned sono, it was so amazing, we got to see the baby move and suck and all, it was so amazing!!
Thanks so much for the info and support, I am so glad I have somewhere to go for this!! No one around me can answer any of my questions!!
Thanks
Jenn

If you are still having sore nipples, one thing that helped me was the lactation consultant said to put a drop or so of olive oil just inside the chamber of the breast flange where your breast slides in and out. THis helps the pain causing friction, and won't hurt the baby if it gets a bit in the milk. This helped me a GREAT deal.

Jenn you can shorten your time frame while you up how many times you pump. Like do only ten minutes but more often through out the day. Then as your milk builds you will want to pump longer to empty the breasts. Does that make sense? Right now you need the stimulation, later(soon) you will need the emptying. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
