Dear Friend,
Thank you for your post. I've answered in CAPS below:
I am a NICU nurse with a coworker (not a nurse) who is expecting her adoptive baby in six weeks or so. CONGRATULATIONS!! She is very interested in inducing lactation, but she just recently found out about it. She asked me if I could get some information for her via this site as I have a medical background to help her better understand. She is also computer illiterate. IT IS VERY THOUGHTFUL OF YOU TO HELP.
Here are her questions:
She ordered domperidone from one of the sites listed on the asklenore site, and when it came, the return address was from Bangkok. Is this safe? MOST DOMPERIDONE IS MANUFACTURED IN THAILAND. IF SHE ORDERED FROM
www.GLOBALDRUG.TV THEN THAT IS THE SITE WE RECOMMEND.
She cannot get pregnant for medical reasons and therefore must stay on BCP. She is planning on abstaining initially when off the BCP to allow her milk to come in, but when she goes back on them, will this affect her milk supply? Is there any particular type she should go on that would be less likely to affect her milk supply? IT WOULD BE MUCH BETTER FOR HER MILK SUPPLY IF SHE COULD USE A BARRIER METHOD OF BIRTH CONTROL. ALTHOUGH WE USE THE BCP TO BUILD BREAST TISSUE AND THE MILK MAKING STRUCTURES, THE ESTROGEN IN THE BCP INHIBITS MILK SUPPLY ONCE LACTATION BEGINS.
When she stops the dom, will her milk supply stop? SHE WILL NEED TO WEAN OFF THE DOMPERIODNE TO AVOID A SUDDEN DROP IN MILK SUPPLY.
Thank you so much. YOU ARE MOST WELCOME. BEST,
